The Bokoni mine, situated in Polokwane, Limpopo in the northeastern region of South Africa, is a vast open pit mine.
Bokoni Mine, the site of South Africa's second-largest platinum group metal (PGM) deposit, has a rich history dating back to 1969.
However, unfavorable market conditions compelled the mine to halt operations in 2017.
African Rainbow Minerals plans to invest approximately R5.3 billion over three years to reinvigorate the mine and bring it to steady-state production, yielding an estimated 300,000 ounces of 6E PGM and 255,000 tons of chromite concentrate per annum starting 2028.
A definitive feasibility study is slated to be finished in the latter half of 2023, subject to the receipt of necessary mining approvals, and mining activities are expected to commence in the latter half of that year.
