Head of Health & Safety
Plan, direct and implements organisational safety, health, environmental and quality programmes. Plans and implement and maintain safety policies and procedures in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health rules and regulations. Plans and implements programmes to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention and correct handling techniques for equipment and materials. Prepares studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies. Key Performance Areas:Occupational Safety Management: Develop, lead, coordinate and implement effective occupational HSE best practices, standards, policies and management system to continually improve safety performance. Maintain expert knowledge levels regarding best practices, including existing, proposed environmental and occupational HSE regulations. Plan, coordinate and compile HSE reporting and performance management. Ensure HSE policies, SOPs and Toolbox Talks are updated with relevant and recent legislation. Monthly reporting on HSE systems, management plans, processes, and incidents in the group. Streamline and digitize HSE processes in conjunction with the Systems department. Provide advice and assistance, to ensure that an effective HSE system is implemented. Manage external HSE service provider SLAs and relationships.Excellence in Compliance: Plan, implement, maintain and continuous improvement of HSE management policies, practices and procedures. Ensure that Herotel meets its obligations and responsibilities under relevant HSE and environmental legislation. Make recommendations for further improvement and development. Plan, coordinate and assist with Internal and external audits, ensuring compliance is always adhered to.Risk Management: Coordinate accident and incident reports and investigations framework and ensure reports and HSE risk registers are reviewed and are submitted to management and the board in a timely manner. Assist in the identification of possible losses and evaluating the risk in such loss exposure. Developing and implementing a plan to correct or prevent a loss and audit the plan to ensure its effectiveness. Review accidents and incidents which occur in the area of responsibility and conduct field audits, reporting and managing the corrective actions. Ensure that hazard identification and site safety compliance is maintained and recorded.Project Management: Manage and/or implement Herotel HSE projects and systems as and when required.Management and accountability of Employees and staff Development: Lead, motivate and support the Regional HSE Officers in the group, with attention to continuous professional development to set a positive teamwork environment. Manage resources and advise management and staff with improvement practices by implementing the safety improvement management systems and plans to ensure objectives are met within agreed timeframes. Oversee, manage and guide HSE committees. Conduct needs analyses discussions based on performance appraisals and determine staff training needs.
