In delivering social science that makes a difference, the Research Programmes of the Human Sciences Research Council initiate and undertake policy-oriented research projects and programmes from its offices in Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria. Its public-purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act of 2008.The Centre for Community Based Research (CCBR) exists within the Division of Human and Social Capabilities (HSC). The mission of the CCBR is to understand, identify and improve community wellbeing by exploring, describing and addressing health, education, and quality of life through novel mixed-methods approaches that combines multidisciplinary capacities, and to serve as a hub for knowledge generation, capacity building and training.Through engagement and advocacy for community-informed approaches, the CCBR is a champion for this work within the Division and across the HSRC. The CCBR currently have staff in both Durban and Pietermaritzburg with plans to grow activities and capacity beyond the borders of the Sweetwaters.The CCBR seeks to appoint suitably qualified persons to take on the responsibilities of a Medical Officer at the rank of a Sub-Investigator for a project implemented at the Sweetwaters office. The successful candidate will work in a multi-year research project for HIV PrEP drug registration study. The Medical Officer will report to the study project management and site principal investigator. This position is offered on a 36-month contract.AdvertMedical Officer Grade 1Office base: Sweetwaters, PietermaritzburgReference: HSCMG0721 Screening of potential study participants with regards to their eligibility for the trial and obtaining informed consent.Enrol eligible participants into the study with accordance to study protocol and GCP standards. Clinical management of study participants enrolled on HIV PrEP as well as adverse events that could arise while on treatment.Performing administrative duties such as resolving data queries, completing SAE reports, developing source documentation and site operating procedures, etc.Assist with the training and mentoring of other researchers and nursing staff.Carrying out any other activities deemed necessary for the effective and productive functioning of the study.Additional Responsibilities:Team mentoring, support and managementStakeholder engagement and co management with the DoH facilities
